Törggelen in Laion

It’s autumn. The sky is a brilliant blue. Coloured leaves rustle underfoot. We’re off on a “Törggelen” walk. There are several of these in Laion and its surroundings. Today, we’re hiking along the Walther v.d. Vogelweide circular trail, starting at the village square in Laion and following the “Walther v.d. Vogelweide” markings until we get to Albions. From there we stroll further to Novale di Laion and drop into one of the local taverns and “Törggelen” establishments. 

We will be treated to true culinary artworks here: delicious barley soup to start, followed by a trio of stuffed pasta, the „ Schlutzkrapfen”, cheese and spinach dumplings (whoever wants can then order a plate of “Schlutzkrapfen” or a round of dumplings). Actually, we’re already stuffed - actually - but next comes the meat platter filled with homemade sausages,  spare ribs, salted meat, cabbage and potatoes. We just can’t resist that and tuck in properly. Of course, there’s wines to drink, the “Nuien”, the new wine, that is actually the main attraction of the tavern and is the main business of every tavern. It doesn’t stop with one glass but, no matter, we’ve certainly provided the appropriate lining for this and anyway we came here on foot.

And, as though that was not already more than enough, the host brings along dessert, roasted chestnuts, wonderfully aromatic doughnuts and the  sweet must wine.
Now we’re glad that we can hike home to Laion from Novale di Laion along the No. 35 trail and past the Vogelweider Hof, the alleged birthplace of Walther v.d. Vogelweide. You could just as easily roll us home ...
